Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 22 year old farmer living with his recently widowed mother and 3 younger siblings in the Lancaster District, SC; he owned 2 of the family's 10 slaves. He was conscripted, enlisted in Columbia, SC on 20 July 1861, and mustered as a Private in Company G, 2nd South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed by a gunshot through his head in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

He married Martha Ann Rollins (1838-1893) in about 1860 and they had a son.
