Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 24 year old farm hand on his parent's place at Rockford in Coosa County, AL. He enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered a Private in Company F, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was with his company to the end of the war and was surrendered and paroled with them at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer at Cotton Plant in Woodruff County, AR and in 1880 he was farming at Pine Township in White County, AR. By 1900 he'd moved to a farm in Lamar County, TX and in 1910 he was at Encino im Torrance County, NM, then age 73, his occupation given as "S.T." (Suggestion Thera?). By 1920 he had finally retired and lived with his son Luther and family in Jackson County, TX.
