Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a 25 year old engineer at Liberty in Montgomery County, OH. He enlisted for 3 months' service on 20 April 1861 as a Private in Company E, First Kentucky Infantry at Camp Clay near Cincinnati, OH and was promoted to Sergeant, date not found. On reenlistment for 3 years, his company was detached as an independent artillery battery on 3 July 1861 and he was appointed First Lieutenant on 1 November 1861. He was reduced to 2nd Lieutenant on 8 April 1862 and offered his resignation on grounds of illness in July, but it was not accepted.
On the Campaign
He succeeded First Lieutenant Erenburgh in command of the battery at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He again tendered his resignation on 7 October, but was listed as absent without leave on 17 October and was court martialled. He was dismissed from the service by that court on 19 November 1862.

His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3, also as Frederick Da Me; he spelled it Da'Me in a resignation letter of 10 July 1862 (not accepted). He married Jane Switzer (1841-1912) in April 1858 and they had 2 daughters.
