Age 23, he enlisted 1 October 1861 in Ogdensburg and mustered as Private, Company E, 60th New York Infantry on 30 October. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He died, probably of disease, in Frederick, MD on 2 October 1862.

The rest of the War

He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick to the new National Cemetery about 1867.
