Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a 29 year old farmer on his father's place in Wethersfield, CT. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 16th Connecticut Infantry on 7 August 1862, probably at Glastonbury, CT.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded by a gunshot through his neck in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He died of his wounds on 25 September 1862 and was originally buried on the field.
After the War
He was reportedly re-buried at Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867, but had actually been reinterred in the Wassuc Cemetery in Glastonbury, CT in January 1863.
