Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 25 year old merchant, a "dealer in Groceries, Hardware and Plantation Supplies," in La Grange, Troup County, GA. He was elected First Lieutenant of Company K, 13th Georgia Infantry on its organization on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He probably relieved Captain James A Long in command of the Regiment on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg, and was also wounded by a gunshot there.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the CSA General Hospital in Charlottesville on 23 September and sent on to Lynchburg on the 24th. He was detailed to serve as a witness at Col. John H Lamar's Court Martial on 14 November and was promoted to Captain on 13 December 1862, but from 24 December into February 1863 was home in La Grange, GA on medical furlough. He was killed in action at Fort Stedman, near Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865.
