A 28 year old carpenter in Forsyth County, he was commissioned Captain, Company K, 21st North Carolina Infantry on 11 June 1861 in Forsyth County. He may have been promoted (but not commissioned) Major in the regiment prior to Sharpsburg1.
On the Campaign
He was at Harpers Ferry, and was killed in action at Sharpsburg on the 17th while in command of the Regiment as senior officer present.
