Before Antietam
Giving his age as 27 (he was probably closer to 40), he enlisted on Long Island, NY, and mustered as a Private in Company I, 42nd New York Infantry on 22 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was treated in US Army hospitals in Frederick, MD and He was discharged for disability at the Convalescent Camp, Alexandria, VA on 14 March 1863.
After the War
He was admitted to the Soldier's Home in Togus, ME on 4 September 1889, then a 69 years old widower, and formerly a laborer in New York City. He died there of cerebral hemorrhage on 2 November 1902.
