He commanded the battery in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission on 23 March 1863 due to ill health. He later served as postmaster of the Army of Northern Virginia.

After the War

He was elected to 2 terms in the Virginia State Senate. He published The Warm Springs, Bath County, Virginia in 1875.
