Before Sharpsburg
The 30 year old Sheriff of Spotsylvania County, he enrolled and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of the Stafford Light Artillery on 5 August 1861. He was promoted to Captain on 15 March 1862.
On the Campaign
He commanded the battery in Maryland.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Major with battalion command on 18 November 1863 and to Lieutenant Colonel on 15 August 1864, and was Chief of Artillery to General Walker in Mississippi.
After the War
He was living in Rigolette, Rapides Parish, LA to at least 1880.
