Charles James Raine

He was a clothier in Lynchburg, VA who furnished uniforms for local militia companies at the start of the war. He was comissioned 2nd Lieutenant at Lynchburg in the Lee Artillery on 28 May 1861. He was promoted to Captain on 21 December.

He commanded the battery in Maryland.

He commanded the battery at Gettysburg, and assumed command of the battalion when Major Latimer was mortally wounded on 2 July. He was recommended for Major, but not mustered at that rank. He was hospitalized in Lynchburg VA in October 1863, but back on duty and killed by a solid shot at Mine Run, VA while serving with Andrews' Battalion.
