Before Antietam
From Lehigh County, he raised a Company of troops there and was elected Lieutenant Colonel of the 128th Pennsylvania Infantry on 15 August 1862.
On the Campaign
The Regiment advanced through the East Woods and into the Miller Cornfield at about 6:45 am and he was severely wounded there almost immediately.
The rest of the War
His arm had been "terribly torn and mutilated", and he was unable to resume command. He resigned his commission and was discharged for disability on 31 January 1863.
