He was in Company D, and was promoted to Corporal in March 1862 and to Sergeant (date unknown). Wounded in action at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862.
The rest of the War
He was on detached service, conscript duty, in September and October 1862. With brigade Commissary Department in November 1862. Deserted 1865. Court-martialed 2/65, convicted for "encouraging insubordination and mutiny," and sentenced to a term at Castle Thunder. Prisoner at Libby Prison, Richmond, VA 10 April 1865 and sent to Cumberland County, MD on 17 April. A comrade's remark: "No better soldier," despite courtmartial.
