He enlisted in Company F at age 20 on 16 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the left side in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Captured in action at Bristoe Station, VA on 14 October 1863. Held at the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC until transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 27 October 1863. He was paroled and transferred for exchange about 30 October 1864. North Carolina pension records indicate that he survived the war.
