Before Antietam
He enlisted in Company A, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 19 November 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the leg in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was treated at the Smoketown Hospital, Sharpsburg, but lost his right leg to amputation. He was discharged for disability on 18 January 1863.
