From Paris, he enlisted in Company C, 7th Wisconsin Infantry on 8 August 1861. Promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, and First Sergeant.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Wounded again at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863 and at Petersburg, VA. He died of wounds in Alexandria, VA on 23 March 1865.
