From Platteville, he enlisted in Company C, 7th Wisconsin Infantry on 13 August 1861. Promoted to Corporal. Wounded at Gainesville (Brawner's Farm) in August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Discharged 19 March 1863 for wounds.
