From Tafton, he enlisted in Company F, 7th Wisconsin Infantry on 19 August 1861. Promoted Corporal. Wounded in action at Gainesville (Brawner's Farm), VA in August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Discharged 11 December 1862 for disability.
