He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Detached to Battery B, 4th US Artillery from 9 February 1863 to January 1864. Promoted Sergeant and First Sergeant. Wounded in action in the Wilderness, VA in May 1864.
