He enlisted in Company B, 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry on 4 September 1862.

Present with his Company at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was in action at Kelly's Ford, Stoneman's Raid, Aldie, Middleburg, Upperville, Brandy Station and Gettysburg. He was captured in action at Sulphur Springs, VA on 12 October 1863 and imprisoned at Andersonville, GA. He was killed by a shot from a guard there, through the head, on 27 July 1864.
