An 18 year old farm boy in Dallas Township, Clinton County, MI, he enlisted and mustered there as Private, Company B, Eighth Michigan Infantry on 11 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and buried on the field [map].

After the War

He may have been reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
