He mustered into service as 2nd Lieutenant, Company A, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry on 6 December 1861. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 10 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Captain on 16 January 1863, but was killed at Dallas, GA on 25 May 1864.
