A 24 year old farmer in Indiana County, he mustered into service as Sergeant, Company B, 11th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 June 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Sergeant on 17 November, but was killed at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862.
