Age 21, he enlisted on 6 August 1862 in Parkersburg and mustered as Private, Company K, 124th Pennsylvania Infantry on 14 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD on 28 September and died there of his wounds on 30 September 1862.

After the War

He was reinterred from his original burial in Frederick to the National Cemetery in about 1867.
