An 18 year old wagon maker in West Newton, he enlisted there on 24 June 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company F, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 August in Harrisburg.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
