A 19 year old farmer in Perry County, he enlisted in Chambersburg on 15 June 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company K, 12th Pennsylvania Reserves on 10 August in Harrisburg. He transferred to Company E on 20 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
