Moses Hayden Ames

In 1860, going by Hayden, he was a 19 year old laborer living with brother Addison, sister Adelia, and (uncle?) Leonard Ames in Hyde Park, Luzerne County, PA. He enlisted in Scranton, PA on 9 August 1862, by then a a store keeper in Waymart, PA, and he mustered in Harrisburg on 16 August as a Private in Company I of the 132nd Pennsylvania Infantry.

In combat at the Sunken Road at Antietam on 17 September 1862, he

was shot through the breast during the latter part of the action and was killed almost instantly. There were none braver than he as he fell in the front ranks.

His memorial is on Findagrave; he may have been reinterred in the National Cemetery after the war as an unknown, but he is not listed among those buried there by name.
