Before Antietam

In 1860 he was an 18 year old living with his parents and older brother in Scranton, PA. Giving his occupation as laborer, like his father, he enlisted there on 9 August 1862 and mustered into service as a Private in Company K, 132nd Pennsylvania Infantry on 14 August in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in a field hospital on or near the battlefield on 18 September 1862.
