A carpenter living in Carlisle, PA, he mustered into service in Company A on 21 April 1861. Wounded at Bull Run on August 30, 1862.

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His brother John buried him on the battlefield. He was later returned home for burial there.
