A 21 year old farmer in Carbon County, he enlisted at Lehighton on 4 September 1861 and mustered into service as Corporal, Company I, 81st Pennsylvania Infantry on 15 October 1861 in Washington, DC.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died in 1863 of wounds, place not given.
