Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 38 year old farmer with his father and siblings at White Ash in Allegheny County, PA. He enlisted there on 1 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C of the 9th Pennsylvania Reserves on 28 July in Washington, DC. He was appointed Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
