He mustered into service as Private, Battery F, 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery on 3 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the US Army hospital at the City Hotel in Frederick, MD on 28 September but died there of wounds at 8 am on 8 October 1862.
