He was a 35 year old laborer in New Orleans when he enlisted in Company H, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 30 September and sent to the US Army Hospital #2 in Frederick, MD on 15 October. He was at Ft McHenry, then sent to Fortress Monroe, VA to await exchange on 17 October. He was officially exchanged on 10 November 1862 at Aiken's Landing, VA. He was captured in action at Gettysburg, PA on 4 July 1863 and held at Ft McHenry (9 July), then Fort Delaware (12 July). He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD on 26 October 1863. He was released from Pt. Lookout on taking the oath on 3 May 1865.
