Before Antietam

At the 1860 Federal Census he was living in Orwell, OH, but he was a student at Hillsdale College in Michigan by 1861. Listing his residence as Jonesville, MI, he enlisted in Company C of the Seventh Michigan Infantry on 19 August 1861 for 3 years, age 22. He was listed as missing in action at Savage Station, VA on 29 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam and buried on the field.
