Born in Michigan, he was a lumberman in Lapeer with 2 small children in the 1860 Federal Census. He entered service in the Lapeer Guard - Company G, Seventh Infantry at its organization as Captain, Aug. 7, 1861, at Lapeer, age 33. Commissioned to date June 19, 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Grand Army of the Republic Post 144 at Lapeer was named for him.
