In 1860 he was a 17 year old farmer on his parents' place at Danielsville in Madison County, GA. He enlisted as Private in Company A, 16th Georgia Infantry on 11 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain, MD.

The rest of the War

His father Augustus filed for his final pay in November 1863.
