From a farm family in Jackson County, he was about 27 years old when he enlisted as Corporal in Company B, 16th Georgia Infantry on 17 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap while bearing the colors.
The rest of the War
He was probably buried on or near the battlefield and may be among the "unknowns" reinterred in the Washington Confederate Cemetery at Rose Hill in Hagerstown, MD in about 1874.
