Going by Sanders, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company C, 16th Georgia Infantry on 13 July 1861.

He was captured in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.

The rest of the War

He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was mortally wounded in action in May 1864, place not given, and died in the 1st Division General Hospital at Camp Winder, Richmond, VA on 6 June 1864.
