Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an 18 year old farmer living with his parents and 7 siblings on the family farm in Jackson County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 16th Georgia Infantry on 20 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was captured on 12 September 1862 at Frederick City, MD.
The rest of the War
He was paroled at Fort Delaware on 30 September 1862 and sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange on 2 October. He was in Winder Hospital #5 in Richmond, VA on 9 October and furloughed for 30 days on 17 October. His leave was extended and he returned to duty in January 1863. He was transferred to Company E, 3d Battalion, Georgia Sharpshooters on 8 June 1863 and appointed 3rd Sergeant in August. He was wounded and permanently disabled at Knoxville, TN on 17 November 1863 and the Company Roll for August 1864 shows him "on expired furlough. Paroled prisoner not exchanged."

By 1900 he was a farmer in Jackson County, GA.
