He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863, promoted to Corporal on 31 October 1863, and captured 12 May 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, VA. He was held at Elmira, NY until released 19 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance to the United States.
