Age 23, from Lincoln County, he mustered as 4th Corporal on 22 June 1861 in Company K, 23rd North Carolina Infantry. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 10 May 1862 and First Lieutenant in September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
