Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 18th Georgia Infantry on 11 June 1861 at Camp McDonald at Big Shanty, GA (now Kennesaw) but transferred to Company E, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 18 November 1861. He was captured at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862 and paroled on 20 May, but was held at Fortress Monroe, VA until sent to City Point, VA for exchange on 8 August.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and died in the White House Hospital on the George Line Farm near Sharpsburg by 29 September.
