Appointed 3rd Sergeant of Company K, l8th Georgia Infantry 13 June 1861. Transferred to Company E, 23rd Regiment Georgia Infantry 30 November 1861. Appointed 1st Sergeant 28 February 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 14 September 1862 at Crampton's Gap.
The rest of the War
Appointed 2nd Lieutenant and Enrolling Officer on account of meritorious conduct in battle of Crampton's Gap, MD 11 July 1863. Resigned 16 October 1863. Elected Second Lieutenant of Company G, 30th Battalion Georgia Cavalry 3 May 1864. Resigned 29 October 1864.
