Before Sharpsburg

He and two brothers moved to Cherokee County, GA from South Carolina in about 1855. He was commissioned Captain of Company G, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Elected Major on 15 December 1863, and Lieutenant Colonel 13 August 1864. Wounded at Bentonville, NC 21 March 1865.

After the War

He was a merchant in Cherokee County and served in the Georgia legislature from 1865-66 and 1875-76. He was the first Mayor of Waleska, GA in 1889.
