Before Antietam
Age 18, he enlisted on 19 September 1861 at Corbettsville, NY to serve three years and mustered in as Musician, Company K, 89th New York Infantry on 22 October. He was assigned to the Company as a Private, date not given.
On the Campaign
He was with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Corporal, date not given. He transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps about 20 August 1863, and was assigned as Sergeant in Company A, 19th Regiment, First Battalion, VRC on 31 March 1864. He was discharged at Elmira on 15 November 1865.
After the War
In 1874 he was First Lieutenant in the 44st Battalion, NY National Guard. He gave his occupation as carpenter in Astoria, NY when he was admitted to the Soldier's Home in Johnson City, TN on 20 August 1909. He transferred to the Home at Hampton, VA on 21 August 1911 and died there in November.
