Before Antietam
In 1860 he was a farmer on his father's place in Masonville, Delaware County. On 18 September 1861, age 21 years, he enlisted at Unadilla, to serve three years and mustered as Private, Company K, 89th New York Infantry on 22 October.
On the Campaign
He died of disease on 3 November 1862 at Knoxville, MD.
After the War
He was originally buried in Knoxville but was reinterred in the new Antietam National Cemetery in about 1867.
