In 1860 he was a farmer on his father's place in Masonville, Delaware County. On 28 October 1861, age 31 years, he enlisted at Delhi to serve three years, and mustered as Corporal, Company I, 89th New York Infantry on 6 November.

On the Campaign

He died of disease on 20 October 1862 at Harpers Ferry, VA.
