From Manchester, he enlisted on 9 October 1861 and mustered the next day as a Private in Company A, 8th Connecticut Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died in a field hospital near the battlefield on 10 October 1862.
