Before Antietam

From New Hartford, he enlisted on 23 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Rifle Company D (later Company H), 2nd Connecticut Infantry on 7 May; he mustered out with them at the end of their term of service on 7 August. He enlisted again, on 3 September 1861, and mustered as a Private in Company C, 8th Connecticut Infantry on 25 September.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
