Age 21 years. Enrolled April 23, 1861 at New York City; mustered in as First Lieutenant, Company B on May 4, 1861, to serve two years. Appointed Adjutant June 18, 1862.

The rest of the War

He resigned his commission on 24 September 1862. He enrolled May 29, 1863 at Albany and mustered in as First Lieutenant and Adjutant, Ninth Veteran Infantry. He transferred to Company G, 17th NY Veteran Infantry as First Lieutenant on October 17, 1863, and to Company B on November 1. He was appointed Adjutant on March 30, 1865 and mustered out on July 13, 1865.
